I figured I’d start something new by acknowledging wrestlers’ birthdays. We just have one today, and she was quite a character:
Marlena, Terri, Alexandra York, whatever you want to call her, she was certainly an unforgettable part of wrestling history. Okay, maybe Alexandra York was forgettable. The ex-wife and valet of Dustin “Goldust” Runnels turns 51 today. She also had a semi-successful run teaming up with Jacqueline to form Pretty Mean Sisters, or P.M.S. for short. Get it? She never held the Women’s Championship, but few may remember that she actually pinned Steven Richards in 2002 for the perpetually-contested Hardcore Championship, though he immediately pinned her to win it back.
Happy birthday, Terri!
On a sadder note, today is also the 21st anniversary of the death of Brian Pillman. He was scheduled to wrestle Dude Love that night at In Your House 18: Badd Blood. When he hadn’t arrived by the time the show was about to start, Jim Cornette was sent to find him, and was told by the receptionist at Pillman’s hotel that Pillman had been found dead by maids that afternoon. He had died of a heart attack at 35 years old. A terrific talent lost way too young.
