Breaking News: Big Show Returns

WWE has announced that the Big Show will make his return to in-ring competition on SmackDown Live this week. He will be facing Randy Orton in a qualifying match for the WWE World Cup, a tournament that will conclude at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia. The Big Show has not wrestled a match since losing to Braun Strowman in a steel cage match on the September 4, 2017 episode of Raw.

Other matches announced for SmackDown live include another WWE World Cup qualifying match between Jeff Hardy and Samoa Joe as well as a SmackDown Women’s Championship match between Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch, with the stipulation that if Becky is disqualified for any reason, she will lose the championship.

Jinder Mahal was a great WWE Champion

10/7/2018: I’m sharing this post again in light of our recent Sunday Sermon discussion on Ring the Damn Bell. We discuss whether the WWE Title still means as much as it used to. It’s a good read and I recommend checking it out and then revisiting my position on Jinder Mahal’s reign.

SMACKDOWN TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: THE BAR VS. THE NEW DAY (c)

Big E will sit this one out, a curious decision, but they must feel like Sheamus and Cesaro can both neutralize his power, so they want to double down on a speed advantage. CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: BUDDY MURPHY VS. CEDRIC ALEXADER (c)

Alexander has been undefeated for over a year. He’s been running the cruiserweight division, and deservedly so, he’s terrific. You know what else would be terrific? Giving Buddy Murphy a championship win in his hometown. I love Cedric, and Murphy is a heel, but that would be a tremendous way to start the show. I think he’d have a great run as champion, but even if you only have him win it just to do it in front of the home crowd, you could always have Alexander win it back in Saudi Arabia

Mae Young Classic Round Two Review, 10/3

TONI STORM VS. HIROYO MATSUMOTO

Matsumoto has the advantage in experience, and it shows early. She seems to be effortlessly controlling Storm. She’s strutting around with a smile on her face while Storm can’t get anything going at all. I do not like this, because I love Toni Storm. Storm finally gets some offense in with a huge snap German suplex. Matsumoto still gets the better of the next flurry of exchanges and puts Storm in a Lion Tamer, Boston Crab, Half Crab, and seems to let Storm get to the ropes. It seemed that she didn’t want Storm to tap out, she just wanted to weaken and dishearten her a bit.
