SmackDown Live Review 9/4

IN-RING SEGMENT: DANIEL BRYAN AND BOTCH BELLA

Great, more Bella bullshit. Let’s see if she botches her ring entrance and falls on her face. Also I would rather listen to Stephanie’s entrance music on an endless loop than hear that horrendous crap that she has. “After my tag match it’s clearer than ever that we don’t have to wait until Hell in a Cell.” Ok, I get that it’s scripted, but how can she say that with a straight face? Almas and Vega save us from having to hear her spew any more vomit, and we have a match.

DANIEL BRYAN VS. ANDRADE “CIEN” ALMAS

They had a terrific match last week and I’m looking forward to see them go at it again. They both are ready for everything the other is gonna do and we get some awesome counters. It’s an extremely exciting back-and-forth match with non-stop action. It has to be exhausting for these guys. Bryan ends the match with a running knee. Excellent. Next up at Evolution: Brie vs. the middle rope.

Match Rating: Nine Gold Medals

Miz and Maryse and fucking obnoxious. But they’re supposed to be, so I guess that’s good.

CHARLOTTE FLAIR & BECKY LYNCH INTERVIEW

Becky owns this interview. I love how personal the feud is.

NAOMI VS. PEYTON ROYCE

Naomi comes out on fire and Peyton never stood a chance. Unfortunately for Naomi, she’s outnumbered and taken out after the match. She finally gets some help with the return of Asuka, who I did see wrestle a dark match before SmackDown in Brooklyn, but for some reason had been strangely absent from TV. Nice save, and I’m all for this feud, because all four women can really go. The match was quick but the real story was the attack and save after.

Match Rating: Five Gold Medals

Miz and Maryse show back up, and Paige forces Miz into a match against whoever wants to face him. R-Truth’s obsession with fighting Carmella is hilarious.

IN-RING PROMO: SAMOA JOE

Really good, creepy promo from Joe. AJ shows up and tries to crack Joe’s skull with a chair. The champ leaves standing tall.

Samoa Joe Promo Rating: Six Roddy Pipers

Are we getting a Carmella face turn? That’s cool. Truth is really god damn funny.

TAG TEAM TRIPLE THREAT MATCH: THE USOS VS. RUSEV DAY VS. SAnitY

It feels like this is the first time The Usos have been on SmackDown in a while. They ran the show for a while. I love Killian Dain. He’s a big man that can really move, and sometimes fly. Luckily it doesn’t take long for this match to devolve into chaos with everyone flying all around. English hit an awesome DDT or drop or something on one of the Usos on the apron before Rusev takes out Eric Young with a Machka Kick for the win.

Match Rating: Seven Gold Medals

THE MIZ W/MARYSE VS. R-TRUTH W/CARMELLA

The Truth-Carmella pairing makes more sense after they announce the next season of Mixed Match Challenge. I definitely expect DB to distract Miz into a loss in this match then whoop the shit out of him.

Miz Pre-Match Promo Rating: Six Roddy Pipers

I’d also like to see Carmella slap the shit out of Maryse. People may not take R-Truth seriously, but he is a damn good wrestler. This is a really good match. Do Miz or DB EVER hit that last big kick of the Yes! Kicks? Probably about as often as Reigns hits a spear or Superman Punch immediately after calling for it.

AS I CALLED IT, DB distracts Miz into a loss and whoops his ass. I was happy to see Brie get face planted by Zelina Vega, not so much to see her do a shitty Yes Lock. Great finish to the show.

Match Rating: Seven Gold Medals

A lot of storyline progression tonight, and personal feuds done very well, to go along with really good matches. Great show.

Overall Show Rating: Eight Gold Medals
